‘John Wick 4’ sets 2021 release date
    2019-05-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The day after “John Wick: Chapter 3,” Parabellum impressed at the box office with a US$57 million opening weekend, and Lionsgate is already ready for round four.

The studio has dated the fourth installment in the film series for May 21, 2021. The news was first announced via text message to fans who had opted in to updates about Parabellum with a note, reading, “You have served. You will be of service. ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ is coming — May 21, 2021.”

Keanu Reeves returns in Parabellum as the formerly retired titular* hitman who finds himself stripped of the protection from a shadowy* international assassins* guild. Now stuck with a US$14 million bounty* on his head, Wick must fight his way through the streets of New York as he becomes the target of the world’s most ruthless* killers.

No other details have been revealed about the franchise’s fourth film, but Parabellum left Reeve’s hitman character understandably angry after being shot and thrown from the roof of a building to the sidewalk below.

“Parabellum,” which received positive reviews and currently sits at 88 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, had a huge debut, dethroning “Avengers: Endgame’” for the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office.

The pic’s larger-than-anticipated bow outperformed the opening weekends of the franchise’s first two installments — 2014’s “John Wick” (US$14.4 million) and 2017’s “John Wick: Chapter 2” (US$30.4 million).
