How to give a captivating English speech
    2019-05-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

He Nuanwen, Class 6, Senior 2, Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School Instructed by Lei Kangcheng, Tang Ying

A few days ago, I took a lesson on how to give a captivating speech and I have gained a lot from it. What I want to mention here are the following speaking skills.

Before giving a speech, you should do enough preparation. You should write a well-structured article with logical and powerful points. The more cogent the points are, the better your speech will be.

For example, every article has an order to the paragraphs. After you write, memorize the article and practice giving your speech. Of course, the most important part is to attract the audience.

In addition, you should have good postures. It is important to give the audience a good first impression. If you have a good posture, it means you respect your audience, thus they will respect you too. Moreover, you should have good eye contact with the audience to keep their attention.

Furthermore, you can create an appropriate atmosphere and express your thoughts clearly by speaking necessary words, phrases or sentences coherently, with good pronunciation and intonation. When you speak about sad things, you can let your eyes drop, and open them wide when you’re happy. Sometimes, you can use vivid gestures to intensify the audience’s emotion and speak with emphasis when appropriate. When you speak about important things, you can wave your arms to stress your views.
