Marine monitoring center to be built
    2019-05-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BASED on the city’s existing marine monitoring and forecasting center, Shenzhen will build an early warning and monitoring center for marine disasters in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

According to the city’s planning and natural resources bureau, Shenzhen has been carrying out ocean observation and forecasting since 2011, which was implemented by the municipal marine monitoring and forecasting center.

At present, the center has basically established an oceanic dynamic factor observation network covering Shenzhen’s sea area, which includes eight wave buoys, 13 integrated buoys, 62 video observation systems, six tide level observation systems and two pairs of ground wave radar.

The observation devices have achieved more than 88 percent efficiency, making real-time observation of ocean data possible, according to the Daily.

The center has also carried out environmental forecasting of two beaches, detailed forecasting of five key targets, and 48-hour forecasting of the wave heights and water temperatures in five coastal administrative districts.

According to the bureau, Shenzhen will gradually build a three-dimensional ocean observation network that is based on coastal observation and supplemented by buoys, satellite remote sensing, aerial remote sensing and emergency observation.

Meanwhile, the city will accelerate data sharing and actively promote the inclusion of the local observation network into the national ocean observation network.
