Woman attacked by unleashed dogs
    2019-05-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A WOMAN in Bao’an District was attacked by large dogs which were not leashed by their owner and sustained multiple injuries on her way to work at the end of last month, a local media outlet reported yesterday.

The woman, identified by her surname Li, fell onto the ground after being attacked at the intersection of Songjiang Road and Bao’an Boulevard, according to the report.

Li said that she was first attacked by one dog. Then, another unleashed dog came directly to her. The two dogs belong to one owner.

No matter how hard she fought back, the two dogs were not scared away, Li told the media outlet.

Even the dogs’ owner failed to stop the dogs, she said.

Li screamed for help and a passer-by called the police and helped Li get to a hospital.

Li sustained multiple wounds from the attack. A wound on her neck was about three centimeters long, and there were gashes on her back and feet.

Li received treatment for her wounds and a rabies vaccine at the hospital. However, the dogs’ owner disappeared after paying for Li’s medical fees.

A reporter with the media outlet visited the Shapuyicun housing estate where the dogs’ owner lived, but the apartment in which the dogs’ owner was said to live had been vacated. Neighbors nearby confirmed to the reporter that two large dogs had previously been raised in the apartment. The neighbors said they hadn’t seen the dogs or their owner around since the incident.

Staff with the Songgang Subdistrict Office said they had carried out an investigation after the incident and fined the dogs’ owner who had failed to register the dangerous breed he kept. The staff didn’t elaborate on the fine or additional punishment imposed on the dogs’ owner.

The staff reminded pet owners to use a leash when walking their dogs in public places, register their pet dogs and not to keep dangerous or prohibited breeds secretly.
