800-gram triplets saved
    2019-05-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

PREMATURE newborn triplets, each weighing around 800 grams at birth, are all safe after nearly three months of treatment at Shenzhen Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital and were discharged from the hospital recently, according to a www.sznews.com report.

Peng, the father of the three babies, took his wife to the hospital in September for a check and was informed that his wife was having triplets. He was both excited and nervous because the doctor mentioned that this situation could cause a premature delivery.

“I was so excited that I was lost for words when the doctor told me the triplet news,” said Peng. However, Peng’s wife experienced a huge belly cramp Feb. 12 and gave birth to the three babies two days later. The babies weighed 880 grams, 800 grams and 810 grams.

Because they were premature, the hospital moved the babies to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) until they were mature enough to leave the hospital.

The hospital has had plenty of experience with helping and saving premature babies. It has records of saving super-light babies at weights of 500 grams, 400 grams and 410 grams.

In the following two months, the hospital was fully devoted to helping the triplets. Doctors conducted many surgeries on the babies in order to help develop their lungs, arteries and retinas.

The three babies have grown since leaving the NICU to 2 kilograms, 1.8 kilograms and 1.93 kilograms.

“Thanks for all of the help from the hospital, donors and all of my friends,” said Peng. “I will indeed teach them to appreciate this community.” (Liu Jieyu)
