VOLUNTEERS with the Bao’an Daily visited the district’s social welfare center to bring presents to the children residents ahead of Children’s Day on Friday afternoon. The orphans at the center received presents of biscuits, milk and diapers from the volunteers, who also played games with the children. In return, the children danced and sang songs to express their gratitude to the volunteers. “I felt blissful to see the kids’ happy faces, yet felt sorry at the same time for their miserable life experience of being abandoned by their own parents,” said one of the volunteers. Although the children are fed and clothed at the center, they don’t have the love from their parents like other children do, which is the source of happiness and the most precious in the world, the volunteer said. According to a staffer from the center, the institution has taken in over 1,500 abandoned infants and children since its establishment. The center now houses over 280 children. The staffer said some local enterprises and individuals in the district have extended their love and care for the orphans at the center over the years, and he hopes more people will join in charitable activities to help care for these children and provide them a happy childhood like other children.
