Twenty teams from Shenzhen Senior High School, Shenzhen Experimental School, Yitian Primary School, Tianjian Primary School and Shenzhen Foreign Language Primary School joined the regional knowledge contest of the annual Global Natural History Day at Shenzhen Museum on Sunday.

The students, aged between 7 and 18, created and exhibited poster boards printed with their Chinese-language or English-language research on biology, environmental protection and history, gave presentations in Chinese or English, and answered three judges’ questions confidently at the contest in the museum’s main hall.

Organized by Behring Global Educational Foundation from the United States, this year’s Global Natural History Day’s theme is “Future: Foreseeability? Unpredictability?” and encourages students to explore the laws of nature. Many local students did research on invasive species and typhoons in Shenzhen, while some demonstrated their interest in worms and plants.

The three judges from Neilingding Futian Reserve, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School and Shenzhen Safari Park listened to the students’ presentations attentively and gave much advice on their research methods and poster board designs.

On June 2, another group of local students aged between 4 and 18 will compete in the painting category of the Global Natural History Day regional contest at Shenzhen Museum. Its winners, together with the winners of the regional knowledge category, will join the final in Shanghai in mid-July. The global contest has 15 regional contests on the Chinese mainland and this year marks the seventh year that Shenzhen Museum hosts the Shenzhen regional.
