Two classes from Shenzhen Foreign Languages School’s Primary School (SFLPS) and high school (SFLHS) won the first places in the Shenzhen “Class Choirs” competition on May 25. A total of 27 classes from elementary, middle and high school levels from the whole city participated in the competition. Congratulations go to Grade 5 Class 1 from SFLPS performing “Moonlight,” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” for the first place in the elementary school competition. With the song “Kia Hora Te Marino” in Maori, Grade 9 Class 2 from SFLHS obtained the first place in the high school competition. The song speaks to diminishing discrimination between races and obtained the highest score in the competition at 95.26 points. As the youngest team among all the classes, Grade 5 Class 1 from SFLPS finished at fourth place with two songs. Junior Class 2 from SFLHS also attended with two songs. Although they didn’t place, they gave a high quality performance and finished with applause. The competition was held at the Shenzhen Arts and Education Base for elementary and middle schools and was organized by Shenzhen Education Bureau. The successful competition marks the first time that the competitors consisted of individual classes from a school instead of groups of selected singers from a whole campus, which reflects the growing level of school-wide musical education curriculums rather than the talent of select groups.
