SHENZHEN will raise the subsidy standards for senior citizens above the age of 70, according to a plan released by the Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau earlier this week to seek suggestions and opinions from the public. For those hukou-holding residents aged between 70 and 99, the monthly allowance will be increased by 100 yuan (US$14.51) from the present standard. For those over the age of 100, the monthly allowance will be doubled from the present 500 yuan to 1,000 yuan, the civil affair bureau said. The public can give feedback by calling 2562-0354 or sending an email to flc@mzj.sz.gov.cn before June 8. Statistics show the city has 1.2 million people aged over 60. Among them, 320,000 have a Shenzhen hukou, accounting for 6.5 percent of all Shenzhen hukou holders. The city has a total of 160 centenarians. (Han Ximin) |
