Reading with left-behind children
    2019-06-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

深圳市新安中学(集团)高二(14)班 叶嘉怡

指导老师:徐峥 汤颖

In December 2018, Shenzhen First Experimental School launched an activity for reading books with left-behind children during the Ninth Campus Reading Festival. The school advocated that each student donate a book and write a letter of recommendation for the children in Ankang, Shanxi Province.

Thus, two students read the same book and then contacted each other after to share their thoughts and feelings. At the same time, through another plan, students recommended books, and after teachers reviewed them, the school bought more than 600 and donated them to the school.

The students generously donated their beloved books and shared them with reviews, notes, marks, and comments. They also wrote down their understanding of the books, any knowledge they gained, positive energy they felt, and their overall interest level, especially emphasizing careful reading: “It is not enough to read a book once to learn the good qualities of the hero or the heroine.”

The middle school students attached a letter entitled “To the Faraway You” to the first page of the book. In the letter, they not only reviewed the wonderful plot of the book, but also mentioned their unique experience with it and any interesting excerpts. Finally, they made sure to write a saying from the book, like “The dilemma was an ordeal,” and “When you cannot fulfill your wish, you must positively face it and do your best.”
