Guangdong to shed toll booths at province borders by year-end
    2019-06-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

GUANGDONG will remove almost all expressway toll booths at provincial borders by the end of this year and popularize the use of electronic toll collection (ETC), the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

It will expedite the application of the ETC system and ensure that more than 90 percent of vehicles on expressways are able to use the system by the end of 2019, according to a circular issued by the provincial transport department.

It has been proposed that the number of new ETC users in the province should exceed 8.13 million, and ETC devices will have been installed on more than 80 percent of registered automobiles in all cities by year-end, the circular said.

From July 1, 2019, Guangdong will provide ETC device installation services free of charge for vehicles in toll station squares and service stations that have sufficient parking areas. A five-percent discount on expressway tolls will also be granted to ETC users. (Zhang Yu)
