A delegation of four economics students from the class of 2017 with the Shenzhen MSU-BIT University won the runner-up prize at the provincial finals of the 2019 Guangdong University Economics Game Contest and qualified for the national finals of the prestigious contest recently. At the contest, students participated in a series of role-playing scenarios in which they tested and clarified the practicability of the western economic theories they learned in class. For instance, they observed that while macroeconomics strategies made a great difference for policy-making at the government level, microeconomics methods were preferred in the operation of an enterprise. The contestants with MSU-BIT University stated that thanks to the contest, the connections between each knowledge point in their textbooks and their real life application were learned. They also gained the skill of opting for a rational solution after several attempts at resolving bottlenecks in problems. Hosted by Guangdong Undergraduate Economics Education Steering Committee, the contest attracted 280 delegations from universities and colleges from across the province, aiming to nurture students’ creativity and capabilities in economics subjects such as data analysis, model application and similar fields.
