SHENZHEN has taken third place in purchasing power in the country since the mid-year “June 18” shopping carnival created by e-commerce giant JD.com commenced June 1, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday. According to statistics released by JD.com and the Shenzhen Economic Daily think tank, the cumulative purchase amount generated by Shenzhen residents has increased by more than 32 percent year on year, with Bao’an District showcasing the most purchasing power in the city. In the first hour, JD.com had sold more than 17 million commodities, up 83 percent over the same period last year. Mobile phones, air conditioners and flat-screen televisions occupied the top three places in terms of orders. On June 1, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou ranked as the top three in purchasing power. Shenzhen has caught up to take third place, up one spot compared with the same period last year, according to data released Tuesday.
