Queen’s villa in Malta is up for sale for US$6.7 million
    2019-06-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WANT to live like royalty? Now you quite literally can. A young Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip made many memories at their stunning villa in Malta as newlyweds — now, it’s hit the market for £5.3 million, which is approximately US$6.7 million, reports Hello!.

The “palazzo-style mansion,” dubbed Villa Guardamangia, just may be the ultimate fixer-upper: while the home hasn’t lost all its royal luster, it will require some maintenance before moving in.

The 5,000-square-foot (465-square-meter) villa, with six bedrooms and three bathrooms, has “great historical value,” listing agents at Homes of Quality told Hello!

But despite all that, the British publication says “its opulence has faded into dilapidation in recent decades,” citing overgrown gardens and a “weathered facade.”

But if you’re willing to look at all that as charm rather than dilapidation, the home is a gem — not to mention an exciting part of the royal couple’s life.

Before Queen Elizabeth was crowned queen, she lived in Malta as a Navy wife. Between 1939 and 1951, Prince Philip served as a naval officer with the Royal Navy Mediterranean Fleet, making the mansion a romantic base for the couple before the coronation in 1953.

The couple eventually left Malta in 1950 ahead of Princess Anne’s birth.

The property was first leased by Prince Philip’s late uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, in 1929 and is the only place Her Majesty has lived outside of the U.K.

Apparently, the Queen loved her time in Malta — when she visited the country in 2015, she said: “Visiting Malta is always very special for me. I remember happy days here with Prince Philip when we were first married.”(SD-Agencies)
