Students compete at 2019 MakeX Robotics Competition in Shenzhen
    2019-06-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

More than 150 teams of students from grades 3 to 9 gathered in Bao’an District recently to compete in the 2019 MakeX Robotics Competition Shenzhen Points Trials on Monday.

The competition was divided into two major challenges: Guarding Home and Brave Journey.

In the Guarding Home challenge, young players drew lots to form alliances, then changed procedures and completed challenges based on on-site tasks using pre-designed robots. Six missions were provided.

In Brave Journey young players were given Mbots and spare equipment, including batteries, parts, and programming tools. In two and a half minutes, the number and quality of the completed tasks were integrated. Brave Journey was the only designated task.

During the one-day competition, the Mechanical Battle Song Team and the Cheetah Team stood out in the Brave Journey challenge, winning the championship and runner-up titles respectively. The Estar Team won the championship in the Guarding Home challenge.

“I think learning robotics is cool, and I have liked it since I was a child. I think learning robotics can (help me) express my thoughts in many cases. I think I can use ideas from my home to make my life more convenient and smarter,” said Liu Minhao, captain of the Mechanical Battle Song Team, the champion of the MakeX Shenzhen Brave Journey challenge.

“I really want to thank my teammates’ excellent cooperation and our instructor’s useful suggestions,” said Peng Qianyi, a member of the Estar Team, which is the champion of the MakeX Shenzhen Guarding Home challenge. He added, “We are very lucky that we can seize the opponent’s small mistake to win the game.”

The MakeX Robotics Competition is a robotics competition platform that contributes to the well-rounded growth of young people. It aims to inspire young people’s love for creation through the Robotics Challenge, STEAM Carnival and other activities, so that the public can gain a deeper understanding of the value of STEAM education.

In the 2018 season, the MakeX Robotics Competition was held in nearly 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Oceania, South America and North America, attracting over 3,000 teams and 10,000 young students from all over the world.
