Are modern students not as respectful of teachers as their former counterparts?

Nowadays people pay more and more attention to education, and progressively more parents are pursuing better education for their children. However, many modern teachers are no longer the strict and serious image they were before the 21st century. Many people think that modern teachers are more relaxed towards students, and students nowadays are not as respectful to teachers as former students were. I think students today do have some behaviors that are not respectful toward their teachers. I do not think it is necessarily a bad thing; it is a trend.

The idea of equality in modern life makes students not respect teachers as much as their former students did. Since the 20th century, more and more people have advocated the idea of equality, whether men or women, parents or children, or between different races. This idea also decreases the distance between teachers and students. Students are more willing to regard and have communication with their teachers as their friends such as joking with the teacher and chatting with teachers instead of a strange existence that they need to respect every day.

Take one of my classmates in my high school as an example. He is a person who is always good at communicating so that he has a good relationship with his several teachers, especially younger teachers, for example English teacher Mr. Li, because young teachers and students are more likely to share common interests and have no generation gap. In the class, he is usually joking with our teachers or talks with them about some interesting content or funny events such as star’s funny meme, the plot of a latest movie and some classmates’ interesting behaviors.

Interestingly, it is because of this trend that my classmates have become more willing to go to those teachers’ classes, and the attitude towards class has changed from a more negative attitude to a positive attitude. Friendly, pleasant and familiar teacher-student relationships make students more willing to learn.

In fact, more and more teachers like to enhance students’ interest in learning. In this process, it is normal for teachers and students to become familiar with each other and have some behaviors that are not very respectful to each other.

This is not a bad thing that needs to be changed, but a new educational trend.
