A FORUM on the promotion of vocational education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held Saturday at Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) in Longgang District.

University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), a national key university, will cooperate with SZIIT, a first-tier vocational education school in China, to build an electronics and information-oriented research institute.

It is the first time that a key university of the “211” and “985” projects has collaborated with a vocational education school in China. The research institute aims to carry out scientific researches in microelectronics, information safety and big data, and cultivating talents in relevant fields.

“Shenzhen has been identified as an international center for scientific and technological innovation, and its industrial distribution plan is in line with our school’s disciplines. As a result, SZIIT and our school initiated the cooperation,” said Xu Hongbing, vice president of UESTC.

The coming digital-economy era will bring new careers like drone pilots, engineering technicians for Internet of Things and operators of industrial robots for vocational education students.

“Vocational education has a history of 2,400 years in China. It originated in industrial society and will flourish in digital-economy society,” said Lu Xin, president of the Chinese Society of Vocational and Technical Education.

Around 380 representatives and guests from 65 companies and social associations, and 84 schools attended the forum.
