Ambassadors for AIDS sought
    2019-07-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BAO’AN District officially launched yesterday its second campaign to select youth ambassadors for AIDS, who will serve as advocates to disseminate information about AIDS in their schools and communities, the Bao’an Daily reported.

Youth ambassadors for AIDS refer to teenagers who, without asking for material reward, act as role models to motivate their peers to carry out activities related to AIDS prevention and publicize activities like fighting AIDS discrimination.

The selection is open to teenagers aged between 11 and 18 who regularly volunteer to participate in AIDS publicity and education activities. The registration hotline is 13798240952.

The whole selection activity is divided into four stages. Experts and representatives of the evaluation units will be invited to form a jury after the registration period concludes.

Twenty youth ambassadors will be selected based on speeches, Q&A and an on-site dialogue, and issued certificates by the sponsor.

On Nov. 13, 2016, the launch ceremony of the first Bao’an Youth Ambassadors for AIDS activity was held at the Bao’an Youth and Children’s Center. Fourteen students from seven local schools became the district’s first batch of youth ambassadors for AIDS.

Through various professional training activities, the 14 appointed ambassadors further acquired the necessary knowledge and skills for AIDS prevention.

Meanwhile, the ambassadors also carried out a series of events, such as thematic class meetings, lectures, designing posters, radio programs and setting up a teenager AIDS prevention education corner, to help more of their peers increase their awareness about the harm of AIDS, learn the knowledge about AIDS prevention and treatment, and reduce the stigma and discrimination around the disease.
