China is to invest 21.3 billion yuan (US$3.09 billion) in trash sorting in 2019, and 46 cities will be integrated into the sorting network by the end of 2020, an official has said.

More cities are introducing domestic garbage management regulations, following Shanghai’s practice that officially started on July 1. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development published a trash sorting program including 46 pilot cities, of which nine have introduced the regulations. Beijing is the first city in the legislative framework, China Central Television reported on Saturday.

Man gets 5 days

The man who poured water over Robin Li, CEO of Baidu.com, has been given five days of detention, Beijing police said on their Weibo account on Thursday.

Police said they received the report from the tech company on July 3, alleging a man disrupted order at a company-sponsored event. The police didn’t reveal the motives of the man or his identity, only saying his surname was Cheng. Cheng dumped a bottle of water over the head of Li when the latter was making a speech at Baidu AI Developer Conference in Beijing.(SD-Agencies)
