A RESIDENT of Zurich, Switzerland, took his neighbor to court because of his rooster that could be heard crowing up to 44 times per day. The crowing was heard from a distance of 15 meters. In addition, the man asked the court to oblige the neighbor to demolish his henhouse because of the off-putting smell of chicken manure. Having examined all the complaints against the loud rooster, the court decided to impose a “crowing schedule.” The rooster is now allowed to crow from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays. At night, the rooster has to be kept in a henhouse that must be improved and soundproofed. Owners of roosters that fail to maintain the crowing schedule will be held responsible. The court dismissed the plaintiff’s claim for the henhouse to be demolished, as the henhouse and the birds are private property and can be disposed of at the owner’s discretion.(SD-Agencies) |
