Investment attraction

SHENZHEN attracted 46.3 billion yuan (US$6.74 billion) in investments for its 16 key projects at a business invitation meeting Friday.

Futian, Pingshan and Guangming introduced the planning and construction of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science Innovation Zone, Shenzhen Hi-Tech Pingshan Park and Guangming Science City.

At the meeting, 10 foreign funded enterprises, including Walmart, were awarded for their historic contributions to the city’s economy, and another 10 companies were awarded for their contributions in 2018.

Heat alert

SHENZHEN Meteorological Observatory issued a three-day yellow alert for heat that will last through today.

For the rest of the workdays this week, the maximum temperatures during noon hours are expected to reach 33-35 degrees Celsius.

During periods of scorching heat, the observatory advises those working outdoors to avoid staying outside for many hours.

In the Chinese calendar, the hottest 40 days of this year started Friday and will end Aug. 20.

Rewards for clues

SHENZHEN traffic police are offering cash rewards of up to 2,000 yuan for reporting the whereabouts of 20,041 invalid vehicles that should have been scrapped, have expired without being checked or have multiple unhandled violations.

Police will release a list of vehicles with 10-50 unhandled violations and offer a 500 yuan reward for clues that lead to the seizure of the vehicles. For reporting vehicles with more than 50 unhandled violations, the reward will be doubled to 1,000 yuan.

For reporting vehicles that should have been scrapped, the reward is 2,000 yuan. For reporting vehicles with expired inspection certificates, the rewards range between 200 and 2,000 yuan, police said at a news conference Monday.
