‘Halloween’ sequels

Universal Pictures has unveiled back-to-back “Halloween” sequel movies that will open in 2020 and 2021. The first film will be titled “Halloween Kills” and open on October 16, 2020. “Halloween Ends” will open a year later on October 15, 2021. David Gordon Green will direct both films and Jamie Lee Curtis will star.

McCartney musical

Paul McCartney is working on a musical version of Frank Capra’s 1946 film “It’s a Wonderful Life.” McCartney has teamed up with writer Lee Hall, who previously worked with Elton John on “Billy Elliot: The Musical,” and producer Bill Kenwright on the project, which could hit the stage as early as next year.

Queer superhero

Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be Marvel’s first openly gay superhero. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the character will have an explicitly queer relationship of some kind in Marvel’s forthcoming “Thor: Love and Thunder,” the fourth MCU movie centered around the hammer-wielding superhero played by Chris Hemsworth. The announcement is significant because Thompson is openly bisexual.

Austin Butler as Elvis Presley

The Elvis Presley biopic has found its king of rock ’n’ roll. After numerous screen tests, Austin Butler has been tapped to play Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s next feature film for Warner Bros.

Luhrmann also co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce. The plan is to shoot at the top of 2020.

‘Gossip Girl’ to return

WarnerMedia’s streaming service HBO Max has given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for an update of “Gossip Girl.” The original show ran on The CW from 2007 to 2012 and helped launch the careers of stars Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick.

HBO Max will be launched in spring 2020. (SD-Agencies)
