SEVEN people are missing after a heavy rainstorm in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, local authorities said yesterday. The torrential rain started at 9 a.m. Sunday in Ganluo County, Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Liangshan. The maximum rainfall exceeded 109 millimeters, causing floods and mudslides and cutting off transport, communication and electricity. So far, six construction workers on the Chengdu-Kunming Railway and a local resident have been reported missing, according to the provincial emergency management department. Rescue workers are searching for the missing. The local government has sent work teams to the affected areas to guide local relief work. (Xinhua) |
