Victoria’s Secret show 2019 is canceled: Shaik
    2019-08-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SUPERMODEL Shanina Shaik has revealed that this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is cancelled so the brand can work on an image overhaul.

In an interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph, the Australian model reportedly said: “Unfortunately the Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year. It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an angel.”

Shaik, 28, reassured fans that the show will return bigger and better in the future but only after rethinking their strategy regarding the fashion event. “I’m sure they’re trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show because it’s the best show in the world.”

Shaik has walked in the fashion shows several times since 2011, becoming the sixth Australian to do so following the likes of Miranda Kerr and Jessica Hart. The latest news shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. In May, it was announced that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show would no longer be televised, making for the biggest change yet.

It came after the event suffered its lowest ratings in five years, with its 2018 show attracting just 3.3 million viewers when it aired on ABC in the United States. But perhaps the biggest blow was the controversy surrounding Victoria’s Secret vice president Ed Razek, who said he would not cast transgender models in the show. In an interview with Vogue, the executive said, “It is the only one of its kind in the world, and any other fashion brands in the world would take it in a minute, including the competitors that are carping at us.”

Razek’s comments sparked outrage among the fashion community, with singer Halsey, who performed at the 2018 show, expressing her disappointment in an Instagram post. The singer said, “I have adored the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since I was young. Performing this year alongside other amazing artists and hardworking models/friends was supposed to be the best night of my year. However, after I filmed the performance, some comments were made regarding the show that I simply cannot ignore.”(SD-Agencies)
