MORE than 5,300 enterprises in Shenzhen have registered to use blockchain invoices since the service was introduced to the city one year ago. As of Tuesday, nearly 6 million blockchain invoices involving 3.9 billion yuan (US$554 million), or an average of 44,000 a day, had been issued, according to the tax authority. The use of blockchain-based invoices has been steadily expanding in the tech hub since a number of local restaurants, banks and supermarkets launched the service last August. The service is now widely used in finance, retail, catering and hospitality in Shenzhen. Regarding Metro services, 1.89 million electronic invoices have been issued to riders who paid fares via QR code. More than 20,000 cabs have been empowered with blockchain e-invoice functions.
