Social governance stories to be brought to big screen
    2019-08-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE stories of five role models who work in the grass-roots law enforcement fields in Bao’an District will be made into a film that is scheduled to hit theaters across the nation this October.

The film, titled “Ping’an, China,” which literally means “Safe and sound, China,” selects one or two typical characters, working in the five areas of court, procuratorate, public security, social administration and national security, and tells the stories of their loyalty to duties and selfless dedication.

Bao’an District is one of the three sites selected nationwide to shoot the film, and five local personal stories will be presented in the film, according to the Daily.

Zhao Yongshi is one of the characters showcased in the film. Zhao is a staffer with the emergency department under the judicial office of Xixiang Subdistrict. Over the past eight years, he has assisted relevant departments with successfully handling 212 cases of personal injury and death disputes.

One of the cases that Zhao mediated will be depicted in the film.

In October 2018, a man in his 50s failed to pay for his groceries at a supermarket and was thus brought to an office by the supermarket’s manager for a talk. However, the man suddenly fell ill and died during the talk. The man’s family requested 1.21 million yuan (US$171,772) in compensation from the supermarket.

Zhao, as the mediator between the supermarket and the man’s family, helped the two sides reach an agreement in three days. The supermarket eventually paid the man’s family 230,000 yuan as compensation and both sides expressed satisfaction with the mediation result.

In Zhao’s view, every mediation scene is a classroom to popularize laws. He said he is looking forward to promoting the district’s experience in solving disputes to the whole country after the film’s release.

The other four characters in the film of Bao’an are Zeng Xianwei, Li Shaohua, Li Jinyu and Wang Jingli.

As a social worker engaged in community correction, Zeng said his job is to provide psychological counseling and educational correction to help solve difficulties for offenders on probation, parole or post-release supervision.

Zeng said he hopes that more people will come to understand those under community correction and create a good environment for them to return to society through this film.

The movie officially started filming in Bao’an District on July 31. It is planned to be completed in mid-August and released at major national theater chains at the end of October as a tribute to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.  (Zhang Yu)
