PM holds 2nd referendum on getting dog for Downing Street
    2019-08-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BORIS JOHNSON has held a second referendum — on whether to get a Number 10 dog.

The Mirror understands Johnson called an all-staff meeting Friday and asked staff for a second show of hands on whether he should get a prime ministerial pooch.

The motion was overwhelmingly carried, with just three members of staff voting against.

Later the same day, Chancellor Sajid Javid’s dog — a Cavapoo named Bailey — moved into Downing Street.

The prime minister has yet to confirm whether he will deliver on the result of the vote, come what may.

The Mirror revealed last month that a Downing Street dog was on the cards.

Johnson asked his first all-staff meeting after taking office whether he should get a dog, to which a cry went up of “yes.”

Downing Street insiders have suggested Johnson would most likely get a rescue dog.

Downing Street, the nerve center of the British Government for nearly 300 years, is already home to a brown and white tabby cat, who carries the official title “Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office.”

Appointed in 2011, Larry has outlasted two former prime ministers: David Cameron and Theresa May.

He has become a celebrity in his own right, with an unofficial Twitter account, which uses some of the thousands of pictures taken by press photographers documenting his comings, goings and territorial scraps with other departmental cats.

The last resident of Downing Street to have a pet dog was George Osborne, who brought in a Bichon Frise called Lola when he was chancellor.

Her arrival was reported to have led to the family’s cat, Freya, being exiled to the Kent countryside, amid claims that she had been “bullying” her diminutive housemate.
