A glimpse of Russia
    2019-08-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Lan Caiyou, Bao’an Middle School

Running away from the heat and humidity of Shenzhen, my dad and I went to Russia for a holiday last month.

After a long flight that seemed like ages to me, we finally arrived in Moscow. The first thing I noticed was how the Russian customs officers processed the long waiting lines. They worked very carefully but slowly as well. Have you ever seen “Zootopia?” A funny sloth in the film gave me a lot of laughs in the theater. Watching the Russian officer studying my passport and looking at me in the face and then looking at my passport again, I couldn’t help thinking of that sloth in the movie. Compared with the other countries I’ve visited, not to mention my home country, Russia has perhaps one of the slowest working rhythms.

Exercising a little bit of patience, you will find Russia actually quite enjoyable.

Wherever I went, I saw beautiful girls with a tall, slender figure. In fact, the average Russian girl of a similar age is taller than most of the boys in my class. The tour guide told me that their national tree is the silver birch, whose trunk is tall and straight, and people often compare the girls of Russia to it. During the trip, we saw plenty of those trees. Located in the north of the northern hemisphere and boasting large areas of forests, Russia has a pleasant natural environment with fresh cool air. Walking in the forests was extremely relaxing. One morning, the sunshine penetrating the lush branches as mist made me feel as if I had walked into a fairytale.

Given its vast land and long history, Russia has lots of things worthy of exploring. I’ll not let on more spoilers on this land of music, art and architecture. Are you ready to explore it by yourself?
