HONG KONG AIRPORT RESUMES OPERATION AFTER HALT
    2019-08-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HONG KONG International Airport started to resume operation yesterday after two days of chaos and flight cancellations caused by protesters.

Passengers are now able to conduct check-in procedures after tickets or purchase vouchers are checked by airport staff. One check-in gate is left open for passengers to pass through.

All passengers are required to show their identity documents and flight information before entering the airport.

Dozens of protesters were still sitting outside one of the exits of the arrival hall yesterday. A demonstration area has been marked out.

Airport Authority Hong Kong said earlier yesterday that it has obtained an interim injunction to restrain persons from unlawfully and willfully obstructing or interfering with the proper use of the city’s airport.

The authority emphasized that persons are also restrained from attending or participating in any demonstration or protest or public order event in the airport other than in the area designated by the airport authority.

The interim injunction expressly provides that nothing in the injunction shall be construed as authorizing any demonstration, protest or public order event contrary to the Public Order Ordinance.

The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council yesterday voiced strong indignation and condemnation over an assault of a mainland reporter and a mainland traveler by mobsters at the airport.

Xu Luying, a spokesperson for the office, expressed support for the Hong Kong police to arrest the mobsters.

At about 8 p.m. Tuesday, violent radicals illegally detained a Shenzhen resident surnamed Xu, who, holding a Hong Kong and Macao travel permit for private visit purposes, was at the airport to see people off. They tied him up, aimed laser beams at his eyes and beat him, putting him in a coma, before obstructing in every possible way an ambulance crew from taking him to a hospital. With the help of the police, it took nearly four hours for Xu to be rescued. As the events played out, the violent radicals also besieged and assaulted a police officer and robbed the officer of a police baton.

In the early hours of yesterday, violent radicals tied up both hands of a Global Times reporter surnamed Fu, allegedly suspecting that he was only pretending to be a reporter. They besieged and assaulted Fu, causing multiple injuries to him.

The Hong Kong government also severely condemned the violent acts against the two victims yesterday.

Hong Kong police said an in-depth investigation will be conducted, vowing to bring the assailants to justice.(Xinhua)
