MACAO-BORN model/makeup artist/emcee Bobo Leung Lok-chi won the 2019 Miss Macao beauty pageant Tuesday in Macao. The 26-year-old winner described herself a “slash youth,” having more than one occupation and many skills, during the beauty pageant’s Q&A session. She also performed a traditional Chinese dance and played guzheng at the contest. Hosted by the Macao Pageant Alliance (MPA) and organized by the SunCity Group, the event returned after a hiatus of a decade. After months of training, 12 final candidates sashayed at the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena on Tuesday night. The Macao Post Daily quoted Elsa Chan Hei-yu, the designer of the Miss Macao 2019 crown, as saying that the inspiration came from the feminine body shape and the lotus flower, the official emblem of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The slogan of the contest this year is “Returning the splendor after a decade, showing the real pageant of Macao.” The contest celebrates the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland. The Macao Post Daily quoted the MPA’s president Laura Li, the winner of the Miss Macao 2009 pageant, as saying that Miss Macao 2019 “showed the uniqueness and feminine beauty of Macao to the world.” From this year, the SunCity Group will organize a beauty pageant every two years. According to Li, due to Macao’s small population, turning the event into a biennial contest would make it easier to attract more potential contestants. The first Miss Macao pageant was held in 1972. It was resumed in the mid-1980s and continued intermittently until 2009. Until its suspension 10 years ago, the pageant was mostly held every year. (SD-Agencies) |
