THE 2019 Bi-city Biennale of the UrbanismArchitecture (Shenzhen) Light Show & Urban Light Art Museum Creative Design Competition was officially launched Tuesday to call for submissions of innovative design works for the Shenzhen light show.

Chinese and international new media artists, teachers and students from art academies and relevant art institutions are welcome to participate. There is no entry fee and the submission deadline is Sept. 30. The first-prize winner will be awarded 300,000 yuan (US$42,500).

The competition, themed as urban interactions, is being jointly hosted by the Futian District Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Urban Administration and Law Enforcement Bureau, aiming to showcase the city’s innovative spirit to the whole world through the original contents of the light show.

Applicants must incorporate the characteristics of Shenzhen, such as fashion, vigor and innovation, into their works to demonstrate not only the modernization and internationalization of the city but also the interrelation between lighting aesthetics and architectural space.

Since last September, various light shows have been successively held in the Futian CBD area with the theme of “Glorious New Era,” “Dream City” and “Vibrant City,” among which the “Glorious New Era” light show was broadcast by a CCTV program, attracting wide attention from home and abroad.

Shenzhen is committed to building itself into an innovative, entrepreneurial and creative city with global influence. The design competition offers a free and open platform for artistic creators around the world to showcase their ideas.

Entry requirements and more information are available at the website, http://www.szhkbiennale.org/EN/News/Details.aspx?id=10002128.
