National Day celebration

China on Thursday announced that it will put on a grand celebration, followed by a military parade and mass pageantry* at Tian’anmen Square in Beijing on October 1, the National Day, to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

President Xi Jinping will deliver an important speech at the celebration. The military parade is an important part of the National Day celebration and is not aimed at any other countries or specific situations, Cai Zhijun, deputy head of the office of the leading group for the military parade, said at a press conference held in Beijing.

Face-swap app

A Chinese mobile application that enables users to replace a star’s face with their own by uploading photos has been widely accused of excessively collecting personal information.

The artificial intelligence app, dubbed ZAO, has gone viral online after its debut last week. To appear as celebrities in hit movies or TV series, users need to choose from a pool of video clips, upload high-definition photos featuring a full-frontal shot of their own faces, and verify their faces. Many people worry if their personal information would be disclosed and used by criminals amid the trend of facial recognition payment, as the app’s user agreement required users to grant it and other users the right to “irrevocably*” use their photos.

Beijing’s new airport

The new Beijing Daxing International Airport has completed a key check and a final review in its application for an operating license, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has announced.

The airport has completed the general check before acceptance in the civil aviation professional engineering industry and the final review before being awarded a license, the CAAC said on Friday.

Blood donation

A total of 127 Indians living in Shanghai donated blood at the Shanghai Blood Center on Saturday.

It is the seventh group donation of the campaign with the theme “Love Shanghai, the Life Gift from India.” Since the first donation in 2013, Indian people have donated over 1,000 units (one unit is 200 milliliters) of blood under the scheme. (SD-Agencies)
