New Guinness World Records announced
    2019-09-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SHED that barrels along at break-neck speeds and the spinner of an enormous hula hoop are two of the entrants into next year’s Guiness Book of World Records.

Now entering its 65th year as the world’s foremost record- aggregating service, the cultural institution Thursday released its 2020 edition.

While record breaking classics such as tallest man and highest paid sportswoman will be in the mix, some more off-the-wall world firsts and bests have also made the cut.

Lisa and Chris Pitman have won themselves inclusion for their remarkable ability to smash wood really quickly.

The husband and wife duo from Kent, the U.S., collectively demolished 545 pine boards between them.

Lisa, who is the U.K.’s only female taekwondo master, smashed 230, with Chris getting through the rest.

Up in Gloucester Kevin Nicks also broke a wood-based record.

The crafty inventor earned the coveted record of world’s fastest garden shed when his supercharged wooden hut on wheels hit 80.67 mph.

From the novel to the sublime, Getti Keyayova made the pages of the 2020 edition with her remarkable ability to spin a hoop.

Where most people struggle to get a 3-foot (91.4-centimeter) hoop going for more than a couple of rotations, Keyayova is comfortable whizzing a 17-foot titanium item around her waist.

For way of comparison, a Ford Focus is 14.3 feet in length.

Another woman making waves this year is Brittany Walsh.

With more than 11 years of circus experience, Walsh has had time to perfect the ancient art of firing a bow and arrow with her feet.(SD-Agencies)

This year the Portland, Oregon performer managed to shoot an arrow 12.31m without touching the bow with anything but her feet.

If such a feat requires the utmost skill and precision, then Michelle Kinney is all about brute force.

Having competed in the CrossFit games - a competition pitting all round athletes against one another - four times before, Michelle has pedigree when it comes to lifting under pressure.

She proved as much when she heaved up 530kg of atlas stones in one minute.

If you want to witness such wonders up close, all of the above performers are hosting public sessions where you can see their skills, ask them questions and have a go.
