THE first batch of the ultra-high-throughput genetic sequencer, DNBSEQ-T7 (T7), which was independently developed by Shenzhen MGI Tech Co. Ltd. (MGI), has been officially delivered to the company’s business partners, including BGI Tech Solutions Co. Ltd. (BGI Tech) and WeGene. The user test data has shown good performance.

As the highest throughput sequencer to date, T7 has achieved a number of breakthroughs. It is the first four-chip sequencing platform, which can complete a full load of PE150 within 24 hours and generate 6Tb of data per day. Additionally, it can sequence the entire genome of up to 60 humans per day.

The machine fully supports genome-wide sequencing, ultra-high-depth whole exome sequencing, epigenome sequencing, tumor large gene detection and other application scenarios. In addition, it features more automation than previous products. For example, it supports automatic cleaning and the automatic recovery of sequencing slides.

Gao Qiang, CEO of BGI Tech, said the MGI sequencers have achieved world-class performance in all aspects and have gradually taken the lead in the industry’s technological development.

“The cost of gene sequencing is falling much faster than Moore’s law, which helps the rapid development of cutting-edge genetic technology. The official delivery of T7 reflects the profound development of MGI’s upstream technology,” said Jiang Hui, chief operating officer of MGI.
