PREMIER League champion Manchester City is the first club to have spent more than 1 billion euros (US$1.1 billion) to assemble its squad, a study has shown. Data from the Swiss-based CIES Football Observatory showed that City has spent 1.014 billion euros on its current squad, while French champion Paris Saint-Germain was second, having spent 913 million euros. Spain’s Real Madrid was in third place with 902 million euros. City’s Premier League triumph last season was its second in succession, while PSG’s Ligue 1 title was its sixth in seven years. Meanwhile, Real has won the Champions League four times in the last six seasons, taking its overall tally to a record 13.
