Freshmen use discipline in campus life
    2019-09-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

不愿吃喝玩乐过四年 超九成大一新生给自己立规矩

With the start of the new school semester, university freshmen also welcome their new campus life. Compared with life in high school, university students enjoy more freedom. As a result, some newcomers may opt to sleep or only go to class when they are in the mood.

However, most freshmen born after the year 2000 don’t prefer a lazy and slack campus life, according to a recent survey conducted by China Youth Daily.

The survey interviewed 1,674 university students. Of the freshmen interviewees, 91.2 percent said they plan to maintain discipline in their daily lives, mostly in terms of study and rest schedules. Among all the respondents, 70.1 percent said they will maintain disciplined schedules regarding studying while 66 percent said they will set up discipline in terms of rest. Other disciplines cited by interviewees included exercise, surfing the Internet, socializing and balanced eating.

Zhang Yalan is a freshman at a university in Shanghai. The disciplines she chooses to maintain include a healthy and regular diet, restricted intake of junk food and exercise. “I plan to do morning and night jogs with my classmate so that we can supervise each other.”

Li Zhipeng, a junior student, said that it’s very important that university students remain disciplined. “It’s easy for freshmen to indulge themselves in a relaxing environment. Once they get used to living in a comfort zone, it’s hard for them to get out of it.” Li confessed that as a freshman he spent his time on leisure and gradually found himself lagging behind his classmates.

Indulging herself too much, 19-year-old sophomore Li Anjing said she slacked as a freshman. “I used to find excuses for everything and procrastinated from time to time. Most of the time I just lied on my bed playing with my phone.” As a result, she failed the second-level computer exam due to under-preparation.

The respondents believe that the two must-experience aspects of campus life are social experiences and student organizations.
