Should children be given weekly money?

Taking a glimpse at the current situation of children’s weekly money, we can see that everyone holds a different view.

Nowadays, more and more children are given pocket money on a regular basis. Some people may think giving children money will lead to bad habits. However, I hold a positive attitude toward this issue.

To some extent, I have to admit that giving children weekly money can cause some bad outcomes, like creating a chance for them to try to “keep up with Joneses” in class and take asking money from their parents for granted.

Some of the children are fond of showing off to their peers in class. In the long term, they will spend money on lots of unnecessary things.

Even worse, they think they can get money without hard work. But that will be impossible when they enter into the workplace in the future.

Nevertheless, the benefits of giving children weekly money outweigh the disadvantages. To begin with, giving an allowance to children enables them to purchase things they crave for. Even I often wanted toys and candies when I was a little girl. I wished I could get a little money to buy them.

When I got them, my heart was satisfied. Childhood happiness is just so easy.

Plus, if children never get money from their parents, they may start to steal or cheat because they are so eager to get it.

Once this kind of thing happens, it may bring about some unsatisfactory consequences that are detrimental to children who are at a young stage of mental development. Besides, an allowance can encourage better behaviors for children. They may donate their money to charities to help other people.

Furthermore, offering kids an allowance weekly paves a way for them to become rational consumers and intelligent investors in the future.

After that, some of them will manage to make a plan for their allowance and save to reach their target. My own experience better demonstrates my point. I learned about money management when my mum used to give me weekly money.

Since I didn’t get a large amount of money, I had to make plans for how I would use the money.

Every day, I needed to distribute parts of the money into different things. It really helped me to have a clear understanding of money. Thus, from my point of view, it is very significant to establish a right view towards money in one’s early years.
