Boy saved

THE medical team of Shenzhen Children’s Hospital successfully removed a small piece of glass from a 1-year-old boy’s belly recently.

The boy, identified as Lele, swallowed the broken glass as his father anxiously tried to remove it from his mouth. Lele was discharged from the hospital two days after surgery.

Card stolen

A CITIZEN surnamed Zhang recently found that his medical insurance card had been used by a pharmacy’s staffer to purchase medicines worth over 9,000 yuan (US$1,270).

An investigation showed that 14 of the 23 transactions made with Zhang’s medical insurance card had been forged by the staffer. A further probe into the case is under way.

Health subsidy

THE health subsidy for children enrolled at Shenzhen kindergartens is now open for application.

Parents can log in at the website http://ertong.sz.edu.cn/ and complete the application either between Sept. 23 and Oct. 11 or between Oct. 21 and Nov. 1. Information verification is required following each application period from Oct. 14 to 18 and from Oct. 21 to Nov.1.

Children born before Aug. 31, 2016, are eligible for the subsidy, which is 1,500 yuan per child per year.

Housing for talents

SHENZHEN Talent Housing Group is building apartments for talents and will offer 4,004 apartments by 2022.

The apartment project for Shenzhen High-Tech Park, covering 43,000 square meters, is located at the intersection of Baishi Road and Keji South Road.

The project is Nanshan’s first shanty-town renovation project.

Online fraud

A MAN surnamed Pan was arrested for cheating others by pretending to be a woman while looking for dates online through social media platforms.

During the online dating, Pan would ask online boyfriends to pay him, using different excuses like having no money to pay for rent, a parent suffering from illnesses and injuries from a traffic accident. A man surnamed Wu was cheated out of 60,000 yuan.

Smuggled bird’s nests

CUSTOMS authorities in Shenzhen and other parts of Guangdong have detained 11 suspects who allegedly smuggled edible bird’s nests.

Around 620 kg of bird’s nests, which are highly prized due to their nutritional value, were seized in an operation conducted by customs police and public security departments in Shenzhen and Guangzhou last week.
