Hanfu: a new fashion for Mid-Autumn Festival

Several thousand people attended a Hanfu-themed party to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at Mission Hills Sport & Eco Park in Longhua District on Saturday.

Members from the Shenzhen Hanfu Association performed a fashion show, displaying various Hanfu outfits for different occasions in ancient China.

Park visitors also enjoyed traditional Chinese entertainment activities like handwriting, Chinese fan-painting, lantern-painting, pot-casting, archery, riddle-solving and scented bag-making.

They also tried traditional Chinese crafts like moveable type printing, weaving, paper cutting and dyeing.

The traditional Chinese national formal wear Hanfu, taking its name from the times of the Han Dynasty (202 B.C.-220 A.D.), is now gaining popularity among youth.

“Wearing Hanfu to celebrate the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival is so special for me as I can experience the rituals of Chinese culture from that time,” said a Hanfu fan surnamed Wang at the park.

Hanfu is so popular that even expatriates in Shekou wore the traditional outfits to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival.
