A RESIDENT in Bao’an District surnamed Zhang reported to southcn.com that her package with a gym called Xima, which was located in her apartment building, could not be used because the gym had closed. Zhang said that she registered for a membership card with the gym as well as private lessons worth 110,000 yuan (US$15,429) in the first half of this year. However, she received a notice from the gym Sept. 17 saying that it would be closed for three days for renovation. A reporter with the news outlet visited the gym last week and found it was closed with the notice that Zhang had mentioned. The equipment was still inside the gym. However, on the other side of the gym, there was a handwritten notice reading that the business had been closed due to poor operation. “My membership card still had more than 90 lessons remaining, which was worth over 40,000 yuan,” said Zhang. Many members of the gym came to the store the same day to ask for a settlement for their unused lessons. The gym was opened at the end of last year. Within one year, after registering more than 600 members, the business was closed. There were more than 2,000 lessons left unused, according to the report. Zhang also told the reporter that coaches at the gym’s branch in Baishizhou, Nanshan District, reportedly hadn’t been paid for several months. The gym’s key staffer surnamed Zhou said that he was communicating with nearby gyms to cover the unused lessons. (Wang Jingli) |
