U station for waste classification education set up in SZ
    2019-10-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

深圳首个“学校垃圾分类教育U站”在石岩官田学校揭牌

The Dandelion Waste Classification Education U Station, the first school-based U station for waste-classification education in Shenzhen, was unveiled at Guantian School in Shiyan Subdistrict, Bao’an District on September 25.

Located on the left side of the school’s main gate, the U station, or the volunteer center, advocates green, low-carbon, environmentally conscious and civilized living. Guided by the work committee of the subdistrict’s Communist Youth League of China and the volunteer service center, the U station aims at improving the image and upgrading the urban quality of life in the subdistrict.

The U station set up four groups of volunteers, namely the training and promotion group, waste classification supervision group, enzyme production group and Party and Communist Youth League service group. Each group provides educational resources to teachers, students, parents and citizens for the popularization of knowledge on waste classification, waste classification service experiences and themed waste-classification activities.

The U station plans to regularly organize various series of volunteer service activities, including lectures on waste reduction and classification, environmentally friendly handcraft classes and recycling exhibitions.

“During the planning for this U station, in order to improve its function and services, we invited Wang Ping, responsible person of the Bao’an District Green Baby Waste Classification Guiding Center, to give guidance on the U station,” said Liao Yaohua, who is responsible for the volunteer service center of Shiyan Subdistrict.

Liao said that the goal of setting up the U station at the school is to educate students and parents on waste classification and to encourage more people to join the volunteer team, thus effectively implementing waste classification and promotion.
