野望
    2019-10-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“野” literally means “wild,” and “望” means “outlook.” This term, originating in Japanese, means “wild ambitions or extravagant hopes.”

Example:

A: 今年的诺贝尔化学奖颁给了三个人,当中有个日本人,获奖原因是对锂电池研究做出的贡献。

Jīnnián de nuòbèiěr huàxuéjiǎng bān gěi le sān gè rén,dāngzhōng yǒu gè rìběnrén ,huòjiǎng yuányīn shì duì lǐdiànchí yánjiū zuòchū de gòngxiàn。

This year’s Nobel Prize for chemistry was given to three persons, including a Japanese, for their contribution to the research of lithium-ion battery.

B: 日本对诺贝尔奖一直怀有野望。他们2001年曾经提出计划,要在50年内拿30个诺贝尔奖。过去19年间,日本共有19人获得诺贝尔奖自然科学奖。

Rìběn duì nuòbèiěr jiǎng yīzhí huáiyǒu yěwàng。Tāmen èrlínglíngyī nián céngjīng tíchū jìhuá,yào zài wǔshí nián nèi ná sānshí gè nuòbèiěr jiǎng。Guòqù shíjiǔ nián jiān,rìběn gòngyǒu shíjiǔ rén huòdé nuòbèiěr jiǎng zìrán kēxué jiǎng。

Japan has always harbored a wild ambition for achieving Nobel Prizes. They introduced a plan in 2001, aiming at the goal of attaining 30 Nobel Prizes in 50 years. In the past 19 years, they’ve been awarded 19 in natural science categories.
