Food security

By feeding its nearly 1.4 billion people properly, China has remarkably improved the nutrition and quality of life, and its food security is a success of worldwide significance, according to a white paper on food security released on Monday.

The white paper, issued by the State Council Information Office, said that with one fifth of the world’s population, China accounts for a quarter of total global food production. China is self-reliant in securing its own food supply, and its people now have not only enough to eat but also a greater range of choices, said the white paper.

Beijing Daxing International Airport has enjoyed smooth operation since its opening last month, an aviation official said at a press conference on Saturday.

From September 25 to October 10, a total of 1,237 flights served about 187,000 passengers at the airport, said Liu Chunchen, an official with the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Starting from October 27, the number of airlines operating at the airport will reach 15, including seven domestic airlines and eight overseas airlines, driving the average daily volume of flights to 280.

Apple’s removal of app

Following massive backlash* from the Chinese mainland, U.S. tech giant Apple on Thursday removed an app that can help Hong Kong rioters track police movements.

Apple has learned that HKmap.live, an app that can display police locations, has been used in ways that endanger law enforcement and residents in Hong Kong, the company said in a statement. “We have verified with the Hong Kong Cybersecurity and Technology Crime Bureau that the app has been used to target and ambush police and threaten public safety,” it said.
