SZ students fetch top prizes in radio in RDF championship
    2019-10-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The radio direction finding (RDF) team from Longcheng High School fetched three first-place prizes, six second-place prizes and 11 third-place prizes in individual competitions and placed among the top-six five times in team relay competitions at the Guangdong RDF Championship recently held.

Among them, Wu You won the second prize in the individual competition on the 144 MHz band, the relay team formed by Huang Zhuwen, Chen Xinyue and Li Huixin won the third prize in the 18-year-old women’s relay team category on the 144 MHz band, and the relay team formed by Chen Rongrong, Wu You and Wang Jieyuan won the third prize in the 21-year-old women’s relay team category on the 144 MHz band.

In total, 1,600 students in over 100 teams from the province attended the championship.

In addition, representative teams from nine countries and regions including Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, South Korea and Japan were also invited to attend the event.

RDF is finding the direction (also called “bearing”) from which a radio signal is transmitted.

This can refer to radio as well as other forms of wireless communication, including radar signal detection and monitoring and electronic intelligence and electronic support measures (ELINT/ESM).

By combining direction information from two or more suitably spaced receivers (or a single mobile receiver), the source of a transmission can be located via triangulation. RDF is used in the navigation of ships and aircraft to locate emergency transmitters for search and rescue, track wildlife, and locate illegal or interfering transmitters.

RDF is a sporting event that Longcheng High School has participated in for over 10 years. It aims to cultivate students into healthy and excellent people.
