‘Frozen II, ’ ‘Charlie’s Angels’ nab China release dates
    2019-11-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

DISNEY Animation Studios’ tentpole sequel “Frozen II” has locked down its release date in China.

The much anticipated reprisal of the adventures of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna will open in China on Nov. 22, the same day it releases in North America, Chinese film regulators revealed Wednesday.

“Frozen II” sees Kristen Bell (Princess Anna) and Idina Menzel (Queen Elsa) reprise their beloved roles. The gang from the original 2013 film will embark on a new journey that goes beyond their homeland of Arendelle, and this time Anna will be joining Elsa on the adventure.

Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and Santino Fontana all return from the first film, while new cast members include Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown. Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee also return as co-directors.

Meanwhile, “Charlie’s Angels” is set to land in China on Nov. 15.

The new movie iteration of the 1970s TV show stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinksa as the three gun-toting, karate-chopping investigators sent on dangerous missions by the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose private detection firm now has branches around the world. Elizabeth Banks directs.

The last “Angels” film, 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” grossed a little more than US$2 million in China.

Banks is the first woman to take charge of the “Charlie’s Angels” IP, whether on the small or big screens. In addition to directing, she wrote the screenplay, based on a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn. She also appears in the film, alongside actors Djimon Hounsou, Sam Claflin, Noah Centineo and Patrick Stewart.

The film is produced by Banks, Doug Belgrad, Elizabeth Cantillon and Max Handelman. Executive producers are Matthew Hirsch, Leonard Goldberg, Nancy Juvonen and Drew Barrymore, who starred in the previous “Charlie’s Angels” movies.(SD-Agencies)
