SHENZHEN police unveiled a draft to specify fines over five types of traffic violations to seek public suggestions after the new rules went into effect Nov. 1.
Under the new rules, fines have been increased for violations like driving e-bikes under the influence of alcohol, driving with fake plates or licenses and being involved in illegal penalty points sales.
E-bike drivers under the influence of alcohol will be fined 500 to 2,000 yuan (US$71-285). For using fake license plates or certificates, a driver will be fined between 5,000 and 20,000 yuan.
According to the detailed plan to differentiate between light and heavy situations, a DUI e-bike driver will be fined 500 yuan for the first violation, as long as they don’t have any other violations and are not involved in a traffic accident.
The fine will be doubled to 1,000 yuan if the driver is caught for a second DUI, has other violations or is involved in an accident. The fine will be increased to 2,000 yuan if the driver is caught for a third DUI within a year, has other violations or is involved in an accident.
For using counterfeit documents or duplicated license plates, the fine is 5,000 yuan if the licenses or documents were copied from those of the driver’s other vehicles, and will be increased to 10,000 yuan if the set of documents was completely fabricated. If the driver causes trouble for the real owner of the car license, has other violations or is involved in a traffic accident, the fine will be increased to 20,000 yuan.
