A spokesperson for Xinhua News Agency on Saturday evening issued a statement expressing strong condemnation against the savage behaviors of rioters vandalizing* and setting fire to its Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau office building in Hong Kong.

On Saturday afternoon, a number of rioters destroyed the building’s security facilities, spray-painted* insulting words on the walls and smashed the front gate and some of its windows. They also threw firebombs and paint bombs into the lobby and committed vandalism in it after trespassing*.

Alzheimer’s drug

On Saturday, the National Medical Products Administration announced it had approved a new medicine co-developed by several Chinese teams, which will provide new treatment options for Alzheimer’s* disease patients.

The drug, GV-971, was developed by Ocean University of China, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica under Chinese Academy of Sciences and Green Valley Pharmaceutical Co., after research efforts of 22 years. A total of 1,199 persons participated in the three-phase clinical trials.

Gaofen-7 satellite

The country on Sunday launched a new Earth observation satellite, Gaofen-7, which will play an important role in land surveying and mapping, urban and rural construction and statistical investigation, according to the China National Space Administration.

The Gaofen-7, launched on a Long March-4B rocket at 11:22 a.m. from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in North China’s Shanxi Province, is China’s first civil-use optical transmission three-dimensional surveying and mapping satellite that reaches the sub-meter level, CNSA said.

Breastfeeding

The capital city of Guangdong Province is expected to become the first on the Chinese mainland that allows working mothers whose children are less than 1-year-old to take an hour for breastfeeding during working hours in the months ahead.

Those who give birth to twins will have two and likewise, three hours for triplets, according to the Regulations on the Promotion of Breastfeeding in Guangzhou, which was passed on October 29. This is the first local regulation to promote breastfeeding in China. (SD-Agencies)
