MORE than 70 foreign talents were invited to visit and learn about the water purification process at the Shatoujiao water plant of Shenzhen Water (Group) Co. Ltd. in Yantian District on Saturday, as they continue their innovation journey to work out solutions for ensuring clean water and sanitation at UNLEASH 2019.

“We found it amazing to visit the water treatment plant here because we saw so many techniques they used, like sedimentation, activated carbon filtering, centrifugation, ultrafiltration and other advanced techniques,” said Sujan Khadka, a Ph.D. student at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

After the guided tour, some talents drank water from the direct’s drinking water taps at the water plant and praised the quality.

“The water techniques they used are very good. The water tastes good and is safe to drink,” said Khadka.

“This is the first water plant I have ever visited. It is really nice to see, how through all these stages at the end we get the direct drinking water,” said Mariana Sanchez Tapia, a student from Mexico City, Mexico.

Tapia was inspired to work on drinking water solutions after noticing that the lack of clean water has made many people’s lives harder in Mexico City. “My main motivation is to make people’s lives easier so that they can develop their full potential,” Tapia said.

According to Shenzhen Water (Group) Co. Ltd., Shenzhen has put forward the High Quality Drinking Water Project to ensure the quality, safety and reliability of tap water for all residents.

The schedule for the implementation of the project across the city has been formulated by the city government, and the project is expected to be finished in 2025.

In 2018, Yantian District took the lead in completing the drinking water project in the city, forming a new mode for providing direct drinking water facilities that can be used for reference by other districts and new areas.
