Morningstar Cup award ceremony held in SZ
    2019-11-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The award ceremony of the 2019 Morningstar Cup China Original Science Fiction and Fantasy Awards (Morningstar Awards) was held at Shenzhen University on November 9. Wu Yihe, 14, won the gold medal for Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Script with his adaption of Liu Cixin’s “Chinese Sun.”

The Morningstar Awards was established by the Science and Fiction Growth Foundation and co-hosted by the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology, Office of Organizing Committee for Shenzhen Reading Month, Association for Science and Technology of Nanshan District and Shenzhen University.

According to official statistics, the 2019 Morningstar Awards received 736 pieces of work in total.

Wu Yihe is from Zhejiang Province. He said that he became a fan of science fiction after reading Liu Cixin’s “The Three-Body Problem” when he was in fourth grade in primary school.

“I feel really honored to be awarded the gold medal. It gives me confidence in continuing to adapt scripts. I hope that the Morningstar Awards can continue to promote Chinese science fiction and fantasy to more people across the world to let them know that Chinese science fiction and fantasy can also reach a world-class level,” said Wu.

Award-winning science fiction writer Wang Jinkang expressed his gratitude to the Morningstar Awards for its continuous efforts in encouraging more youth writers to write science fiction and fantasy. According to him, this is “applying fertilizer” to China’s science fiction and fantasy writing circle — the effect is not instant but will become more significant in the future.

The Science and Fiction Growth Foundation is an active promoter of Chinese science fiction and fantasy.

It has launched a series of events including literature awards, arts awards, movie awards, exhibitions, concerts and talk shows.
