End to violence

Overseas experts and scholars expressed their firm support for the Chinese Government’s stance on the situation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), hoping that stability and order could return to the city at an early date.

While attending the 11th BRICS summit in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia on Thursday, President Xi Jinping made clear the stance of the Chinese Government on Hong Kong’s situation, saying that the most pressing task for Hong Kong at present is to bring violence and chaos to an end and restore order.

Pork supply

China has taken various measures to ensure pork supply and stabilize pork prices, an official said on Thursday.

Governments at all levels have put great emphasis on restoring hog production and have stepped up efforts to increase pork supply, Liu Aihua, spokesperson for the National Bureau of Statistics, told a press conference.

Swimming courses

Guangdong Province is set to include swimming courses in the primary schools’ mandatory* physical education (PE) programs starting from 2020, a move to further improve the students’ all-around development, according to a The Paper report.

According to a plan recently released by the province, primary schools must ensure at least four PE lessons a week for students in the first and second grades. Students from above second grade in primary schools up to third grade in middle schools have to take three PE lessons a week. In addition, primary and middle schools should guarantee an hour of on-campus physical activities for the students, while encouraging PE assignments after school.

Principal punished

A principal and a teacher at a primary school in Henan Province have been ordered to reflect on their inattentiveness* after a 7-year-old girl was bullied by three classmates who stuffed pieces of paper into her eyes, local education authorities said on November 12.

The girl, a second-grade student at Dajian Primary School in Yuzhou City, was held down by two boys while another boy stuffed small pieces of paper into her eyes on September 28, the Yuzhou bureau of education and sports said in a statement.
